JRI ups bid for Agricore United to $1.8 billion
James Richardson International has stepped into the lead in the bidding war for Agricore United. JRI announced a $1.8-billion takeover offer yesterday to top Saskatchewan Wheat Pool's latest proposal. Agricore said the deal offers a more certain return for shareholders of $19.25 cash for each limited voting share. Producers say the proposal will offer mixed results. "The bad news is farmers are losing competition when it comes to selling our grain," said Chuck Fossay, who produces grain near Starbuck. It's also unclear how a previous goal to save $62 million a year would affect the combined staff of 3,800. .
Chali-Rosso Art Gallery: "From the HeART" Art Auction at Hycroft ...
The auction is hosted by the Chali-Rosso Art Gallery and Auctions in Motion. A percentage of each piece of art sold will be designated to the charity of choice by the purchaser. The auction will offer original graphic works from world-renowned European masters and a variety of works from BC artists.
The show organizers have launched similar events in Europe in previous years. In 2006, the Vancouver auction sold over 60% of works. Show hosts anticipate 75% of the art will be sold this year.
The Chali-Rosso Gallery is located on South Granville. The gallery specializes in European original lithographs and etchings by such masters as Rembrandt, Picasso, Miro, Dali, Chagall and Matisse. They are the only gallery in Canada offering these artists as a group. Owner, Susanna comments, "We are offering a unique opportunity to donors and charities.
Kovels' List of Top Antiques Searches Reflect Current Events
Kovels has released the Top 20 list of antiques and collectibles for March based on results of hundreds of thousands of searches on its website. The top three searches - Pottery, Glass and Furniture - rarely change and are always the major areas of interest because they are useful antiques or collectibles found in every home. But the other items reflect a special interest often influenced by current news or auctions. For example, the recent ruling against selling war medals has created a problem for dealers and a change in prices of World War II souvenirs so it moved to number 10. The auctions of several large toy collections created extra publicity and interest in toy prices, and Toys made it into the 7th position.
