| Canada Phone Stocks Jump on Speculation of Bidding War for BCE
April 17 (Bloomberg) -- Canadian telephone stocks rose on speculation of a bidding war for BCE Inc., after the nation's biggest phone company said it's in talks with private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. and three Canadian pension funds about a sale. Such a transaction would be the country's biggest buyout ever, surpassing the $16.7 billion takeover in January of Inco Ltd. by Brazil's Cia. Vale do Rio Doce. Global buyout firms announced $274 billion in takeovers this year, almost 70 percent more than in the same period last year. The Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index was little changed, slipping 2.03 to 13,657.95 in Toronto. Commodity and industrial shares declined on a report that showed industrial production dropped in the U.S., Canada's biggest export market.

Gujarat Tourism invites bids for sale of its properties
In an attempt to reorganize the ailing Gujarat Tourism Corporation Limited and to boost tourism in Gujarat, the state government has invited global bids for the sale of its selected properties. This follows the steps taken by the State Government to improve the tourism industry in the state. These measures include setting up of Gujarat Tourism Council headed by the Chief Minister, declaration of Hotel Investment Incentive Scheme, introduction of Heritage Hotels Policy, Eco Tourism Policy and Medical Tourism Policy, reduction in Entertainment Tax from 55 per cent to 25 re cent, reduction and restructuring of luxury tax and reduction of Value Added Tax on F&B from 12.50 per cent to 4 per cent. The Government has also enhanced the budget allocation for tourism sector from Rs 30 to 100 crore with a provision of Rs 60 crore for infrastructure and basic facilities.
