| Bidding Availalbe On Waples' Driving Suit
It's the final order of business from Western Fair Raceway's overwhelmingly successful fundraiser on January 29th which brought a life saving defibrillator to the track in support of the Chase McEachern Tribute Fund of the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. That evening in London, Randy Waples marked his return to active driving duty after a six month recovery from the injuries he suffered in a racing accident at Mohawk last Summer. In addition to dozens of horsepeople, members of the public and staff donating that night, Waples also contributed a custom driving suit which is now available for bidding through an Ebay site auction at www.quikdropbarrie.com. The suit, and the progress of the bidding, can be accessed by going into the designated "Chase Fund Raiser" down the left column.

Germany to offer unrestricted 3G concessions
Reuters reports that Germany's telecoms regulator, the Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA), plans to auction a second lot of UMTS concessions in early 2008 that would allow operators to offer more services than before. The first sale in 2000 drew criticism from cellcos because the amount of spectrum fell below what they needed to offer full voice, video and data services to wireless devices anywhere in the world. ‘We will not put down any conditions saying you may offer this or that service or technology. It will be more open,’ Matthias Kurth, head of the BNetzA said in an interview. ‘Operators will also be allowed to deal in frequencies, meaning they can swap with others,’ he added. Six operatorss spent EUR51 bullion (USD66 billion) in 2000 on domestic 3G licences, but only four actually deployed services.

DIB denies report it is bidding for Egypt bank
Dubai: Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) yesterday denied press reports that it is one of three financial institutions bidding for Egypt's National Development Bank. Citing unnamed Egyptian banking sources, Arabic daily newspaper Al Bayan reported that DIB - along with a UAE-Gulf consortium and Saudi National Commercial Bank - had submitted a bid. However, in a statement issued yesterday, DIB said the story was incorrect, without adding further information. "Dubai Islamic Bank wishes to clarify that an article published today regarding a DIB acquisition in National Development Bank of Egypt (NBD) is incorrect," according to the statement. "The news is totally untrue," said a Dubai Islamic Bank official, who asked not to be named. He said the bank was in no way involved in any such deal.
